EquiLift Takes Off At Manchester Airport
Once again Manchester International Airport has installed an EquiLift Spira lifting platform as part of its commitment to meeting the access needs of disabled passengers who use the giant air terminal.
The Spira, the only UK manufactured stairlift of its kind, was chosen for Terminal 1, which handles international flights, two years after a Spira was installed in the check-in area of Terminal 2, proving to be a successful and widely appreciated facility.
The Spira incorporates two 90 degree turns on its run from the departure terminal gateway down to the apron level, and features an optional fold down seat so it can be used by semi ambulant users as well as those in wheelchairs. Also it is fitted with attendant controls which allow airport staff to accompany the user.
The Spira parks neatly at 180 degrees to the track so that it occupies a minimum amount of space when not in use.
The EquiLift Spira is suitable for all types of public buildings and was developed to meet the requirements of the Disabled Discrimination Act and Part M of the Building Regulations. It has successfully catered for the needs of the disabled in restaurants, civic buildings, universities, leisure centres and many more locations.
It is an effective alternative to costly passenger lifts or long ramps which result in a loss of valuable floor area. The Spira is easy to use, with a release lever to lower and raise the ramp, thus enabling easy access via a pull down platform. Safety Regulations at all British Airports demand that when stairlifts are in operation an airport employee is in attendance to control the movement of the lift.
Controls are situated on each landing, and the platform can be called or sent from the landing controls in a folded position in order to safeguard anyone who might be accessing the platform out of sight of the other landings. |
