Flights of stairs handled by wheel chair lift at airportOnce again Manchester International Airport has installed an EquaLift Spiralift platform lift as part of its commitment to meeting the access needs of disabled passengers. The wheelchair lift, the only UK manufactured stair lift of its kind, was chosen for Terminal 1, which handles international flights, two years after a Spiralift was installed in the check-in area of Terminal 2, proving to be a successful and widely appreciated disabled access facility. The lifting platform incorporates two 90 degree turns on its run from the departure terminal gateway down to the apron level, and features an optional fold down seat so it can be used by semi ambulant users as well as those in wheelchairs. Also it is fitted with attendant controls which allow airport staff to accompany the user. The incline platform lift parks neatly at 180 degrees to the track so that it occupies a minimum amount of space when not in use. The EquiLift curved stair platform lift is suitable for all types of public buildings and was developed to meet the requirements of the Disabled Discrimination Act and Part M of the Building Regulations. It is an effective alternative to costly passenger lifts or long ramps which result in a loss of valuable floor area. The Spiralift is easy to use, with a release lever to lower and raise the ramp, thus enabling easy access via a pull down platform. Safety Regulations at all British Airports demand that when stairlifts are in operation an airport employee is in attendance to control the movement of the lift. |
